My take on why hiring practices now come with a lot of red tape

I have a bit of a controversial theory on why these frustrating hiring practices have become the norm. The misleading instructions, the abnormally long vetting and interviewing periods. I think that this is all being done to create an additional layer of psychological panic among job seekers, all in a bid to get them to accept a lower salary and/or discourage them from job-hopping if they're offered a job.

The reason why I call it a controversial theory: if you ask any hiring decision-maker how they feel about modern-day hiring, the two big complaints are almost always around "grandiose" salary expectations or the "cost" of hiring, only to lose the candidate six months later. But if you then ask if that's the reason why hiring practices have changed across the board, they start to act a bit squiggly. They'll change gears and start giving you very corporate-friendly answers.
